Day 3 and 4

On our final day in Stellenbosch we walked to the university to have an intense hockey training session with self-proclaimed specialist in intimidation, first touch and development coaching. We worked on our first touch and everyone learnt a new way of scoring goals. We then travelled to Langa Township where we tried some of the native cuisine. After lunch we were shown around by a very cheerful and chatty guide. We enjoyed giving the children balls, pens and books as well as some additional personal gifts from Kirsty, Brogan and Miss Drayne and playing with the children. The trip left us all feeling very fortunate and in high spirits as we continued on our way to Cape Town.

We had a very warm welcome at the Strand Tower Hotel with very friendly door men. After unpacking and settling into the hotel we went to explore more of Cape Town and had some free time in the shops and stalls. Some of us enjoyed ice cream cookie sandwiches after a long day.

We returned to the hotel for a buffet dinner followed by an intense quiz held by the teachers where Team 'I'm a lad' won. Everyone is looking forward to the second part nearer the end of the tour.

We woke up to our first morning in Cape Town all ready to return to Brackenfell school to play another netball match where both 1st and 2nd team won. We then met Arthur; our bus driver throughout the tour, who took us to the waterfront for a quick lunch before our planned trip to Robben Island. However, due to high winds, the ferry was cancelled and the trip to Robben Island was rescheduled for later in the week.

Instead we returned to the shopping centre for more free time where we all appreciated the lower prices of sweets, ice cream and clothes. Our relaxing afternoon continued at the hotel with many of us taking afternoon naps, playing cards and investigating the steam room before another buffet dinner and early night.
